Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

SongBattle (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit songbattle.co, enter as an artist, or vote as a fan, and how we use and protect it.

Information we collect

From artists

  • Artist name, email, song title, genre, bio, and a link to your music video.
  • Optional Instagram and TikTok handles.
  • Payment information processed by our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers ourselves).

From voters

  • A one-way hash of your IP address and a one-way hash of a device/browser fingerprint. These are used only to enforce one vote per device per round and to detect coordinated abuse. We do not store raw IP addresses or raw fingerprints.
  • The artists you voted for, and the voting round in which you voted.
  • A Cloudflare Turnstile CAPTCHA token (sent to Cloudflare for bot-detection; not stored by us).

Automatically

  • Aggregate, non-identifying analytics for each artist’s profile page: total profile views, taps on their Instagram link, and taps on their TikTok link. These counts are shown only to that artist via a private stats link.
  • Standard server logs (request times, status codes, user-agent strings) kept short-term for security and debugging.

How we use information

  • To run the competition: display approved artist profiles, tally votes, and pay out prizes.
  • To protect the competition from bots, vote-buying, and manipulation.
  • To contact artists about their submission, the competition, or prize payouts.
  • To improve the site (which pages load slowly, which features get used).

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and local-storage entries to make the site work: remembering that a device has already voted, remembering an artist’s returning entry form, and (when enabled) loading a CAPTCHA. None of these are used for tracking you across other websites.

Third-party advertising. We use Google AdSense to display advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

YouTube embeds. Artist profiles embed videos from YouTube. When you view an embedded video, YouTube (Google) may set its own cookies in line with Google’s Privacy Policy.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information for money. Our advertising partners, however, may receive or process certain information — such as cookie identifiers, IP addresses, and information about your interactions with the Site — to serve and measure advertising. Depending on where you live and how the law defines these terms, some of this activity may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising (see the Your rights and choices section for how to opt out).

We share information only with the service providers we use to run the site:

  • Supabase — database and storage hosting.
  • Vercel — web hosting.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — CAPTCHA / bot protection.
  • Google AdSense — advertising.
  • YouTube — video playback on artist profiles.
  • Our payment processor, to charge entry fees and pay prizes.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SongBattle, our users, or the public.

What artists agree to make public

When an artist’s entry is approved, their name, song title, genre, bio, video, and any social handles they provided become publicly visible on the site. Email addresses are never displayed and are never exposed through our public API.

Your rights and choices

  • Artists: to withdraw your entry from on-site display or request deletion of eligible personal information, email privacy@songbattle.co. Withdrawal may result in removal from the current competition and deletion of your vote total from the leaderboard. Copies that were already distributed, published, embedded, or cached on third-party platforms (for example, our previous social-media posts) may remain in those places, as described in Section 3 of our Terms of Service.
  • Voters: clearing your browser’s cookies and local storage removes the on-device memory that a device has voted, but does not delete the server-side hashed identifiers or vote records tied to that round — those are retained in hashed form for vote integrity and fraud prevention (see Data retention).
  • Ads: see the links in the cookies section above to opt out of personalized advertising.
  • California / other state privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. To make a request, email privacy@songbattle.co. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Data retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes it was collected. Specifically:

  • Artist submissions (artist name, song title, video link, bio, social handles, and email) are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the competition, maintain historical competition records, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal obligations.
  • Vote records and anti-fraud identifiers (hashed IP, hashed device fingerprint, artists voted for, round) are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to verify results, investigate manipulation, resolve disputes, and protect future competitions from repeat abuse.
  • Server logs (request times, status codes, user-agent strings) are generally retained for a limited period unless longer retention is necessary for security, fraud investigation, or legal compliance.
  • Payment records and tax-reporting information (for example, W-9 forms and prize payout records) are retained for the periods required by applicable tax and accounting law.

When we no longer have a business or legal reason to keep information, we delete or anonymize it.

Children

SongBattle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Artists under 18 must have a parent or guardian enter on their behalf.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the site.
